Shimmer Crochet Wrap

It’s fall! Fall is one of my favorite times of year. The weather is cooler, the clothes are warmer, the blankets are fuzzier and everything is just a little bit more cozy! In celebration of fall, I wanted to make a new lush scarf to add to my wardrobe and thus the Shimmer Crochet Scarf was born.
The yarn
I typically go to either JoAnn’s or Michael’s for all of my yarn purchases and this yarn purchase was no exception. Instead of going to my usual local JoAnn store, I decided to make a trek to an alternate location a town over for a change of scenery.
This store was a bit larger than the location closer to me and they had a really great selection of yarn! While browsing the aisles I found Red Heart’s Hygge Charm and I couldn’t resist! It’s super soft, and has a hint of shimmer to it and this color was absolute perfection.
As soon as I saw this yarn, I envisioned this exact project. A lovely and flowy scarf with a beautiful drape – perfect for fall! I can’t wait to wear this one out and about!
The Stitch
The stitch looks complicated, but I promise you it’s not! The stitch is comprised of alternating between single and double crochets and the end result is a beautiful and elegant texture with a super dreamy drape! I cannot wait for you to give this pattern a try!

Materials
- 8.0 mm crochet hook (my hook is part of this set)
- 2 balls of Red Heart Hygge Charm in color Meteor (each ball is 7oz / 432 yds)
- Medium-4 weight yarn, 97% acrylic, 3% other fibers
- yarn needle
- scissors
- gauge checker
- measuring tape
Sizing & Finished Measurements
- One size
- Approximately 15 inches wide by 76 inches long
Gauge
- 12 st by 10 rows = 4 inches of pattern stitch (sc & dc combo stitch)
Key
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- sk – skip
- st – stitch

Pattern
ch 45
Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook sc, dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * to end of row (44)
Row 2: ch 1, sk 1st st, sc and dc in next st, *sk next st, sc and dc in next st; repeat from * to end of row (44)
Rows 3 – 192: Repeat Row 2 until you have used up both yarn balls.
Cut yarn and secure.
Weave in all ends.

Hi Penny! You can chain any odd number you would like and the pattern will work out. So just make your foundation chain be whatever width you would like and make sure its an odd number. As for the amount of yarn, it will depend on how long you would like to make your scarf. I crocheted until I used up both balls of yarn, so my finished scarf used about 864 yards (each ball was 432 yds). Hope this helps and happy crocheting!

I am a crochet beginner and really looking forward to making this! I noted that the crochet hook size recommended on the yarn label says 5.5mm but your instructions say an 8mm hook. Just checking that the 8mm hook is correct.

Hi Lori Ann! Yes – the size 8.0mm hook is correct. Using the larger hook size is what gives the wrap a pretty drape! If you find your stitches are way too loose you can aways try a hook size down. Happy crocheting!
Hey Brittany I’m making this
same scarf and I’m almost done with it and wanted to add a border to it and I was wondering if I could use the same stitches I’m already using for it would be possible or would you use different stitches?
Hi Cammie! That’s a great idea and totally up to you! The main stitch pattern will give you a bit of a bumpy border, or you could do a single or hdc border if you like a smoother look. Both would look great, but it just depends on the look you are going for! Hope this helps!
I absolutely loved this pattern when I saw it. So much so that I bought the wrong yarn. The Red Heart Hygge yarn I bought is a size 5 bulky yarn. What adjustments do you think I should make as far as hook size?
Hi Lydia! Ooo I LOVE the Red Heart Hygge Yarn! Don’t worry, this will turn out lovely with the yarn you purchased, the only thing is that you might need more balls of yarn as the Hygge Charm used in the pattern comes in 432 yd balls and I used up two full balls of it for a total of 864 yds.
This pattern is super easy to modify though, all you need to do is make a foundation chain to the width of your liking (my scarf is 15 inches wide) and make sure that your foundation chain is an odd number. Follow the repeat instructions until you’ve used up all of your yarn or until you get to the desired length. That’s it!!

Hi Brittany – this scarf is beautiful! I wanted to ask about length though. I felt like my scarf was getting pretty long so I went ahead and measured it – it’s currently about 76 in long as yours was, however, I have not yet used up all of my second ball. So I was wondering if I should stop now, or just keep going to the end. It’ll obviously make it really long, but maybe that’s okay as it can always be folded, which should also it make it warmer…but I’m nervous about it being too long.
