  • The number of chains is not really important.  You just want to make sure that your foundation chain measures 1 inch less than the desired head measurement.
  • Once you complete the first couple rows, the width of your flat piece should match that of the head measurement.
  • For a more snug fit, size down.

  • ch – chain
  • hdc – half double crochet

  1. It would be very good if you supplied the link to both your Youtube videos and to your Etsy Shop. The less complicated for customers, the better!

    1. Hi Shirley! Thank you for your comment! There was a timing issue with the video tutorial uploads. Both left handed and right handed tutorials are now linked in the post!

    1. This pattern is worked in the back loop. With half double crochet it might look like the 3rd loop from the camera angle, but its the back loop. Thanks!

    2. When you begin the foundation row, working in the 3rd chain from the hook sets up the foundation for the rest of the pattern, so that, at the end of the first row, you turn, and in this pattern, you will make two chains because you are using hdc, and then insert hook at the very beginning chain of the row and continue on this way for every row. I always had this problem.

  2. Could this pattern be made into a scarf (minus the twist)? If so, how long World you recommend? I made the head warmer twist for my daughter and she loves it but I’d like to make a matching scarf now. Thank you!

  3. I LOVE this pattern! I made my friends’s daughter a twisted headband in the same colors as a. simple baby beanie I made for her newborn baby girl. Once the baby is a bit older. I’ll make a headband for her too.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  4. I keep getting an extra twist in mine. The front looks great but the back remains twisted when I turn it right side out. What am I doing wrong?

      1. HI there! It sounds like you might be twisting the side of the head band you are rotating too much. When you go to join the head band, you really aren’t so much twisting one side but rotating it downwards, if that makes sense. I suggest re-watching the video a couple of times. You’ll get it!

  5. Loved your video, it’s very clear and easy to follow. And the headband looks amazing! Hello, Christmas presents!

    1. Hi Brittney! I would recommend using the hook size your yarn ball recommends and then follow my customization instructions listed in the pattern. Happy crocheting!

  6. Hello!

I was wondering approximately how many yards you would need to make a women’s large using the yarn you specified?

    Thanks!

  7. Thank you for posting this free pattern and video tutorial. I’m looking for ideas for gifting my family and my boyfriends family and I’m glad i came across your post. ?

  8. Hi there! Thank you for this pattern. It works great. When all is said and done and I tried it on, the starting chain was very tight while the rest of the headband had stretch. Any ideas on how to avoid this? Did I crochet the chain too tight?

  9. Hello, I really enjoyed your tutorial and I’ve made some ear warmers for my granddaughters and my two girls for Christmas. Hope they like them. It’s simple and so nice . Thank you … and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  10. Just love this pattern. I made my daughter this headband in same yarn I used to make a sweater for her dog. Very cute,

  11. Thanks Brittany! This is a SUPER fun project and now I have made several. I plan on making this for everyone! I had a suggestion for those that were having trouble with the twist. I pin my ear warmers with sewing pins first before seeing it together. I then turn it inside out to check that I have done everything right. If everything checks out, I go ahead and sew together. I think this helps save a lot of heartache? Happy crocheting everyone!
