How to Join Granny Squares as You Go | JAYGO Granny Square Tutorial

In this blog post you’ll learn how to join granny squares as you go. Its called the Join As You Go (JAYGO) method. And it’s perfect if you want to find a way to literally join squares as you go, instead of waiting until you’re completely done crocheting your squares!

This technique lets you join your squares while working the final round, or an additional round, which means no seaming is waiting for you at the end. It’s quick, fun, and I can’t wait to show you how to do it!

Free Printable JAYGO Cheat Sheet

It can be easy to get turned around when joining your squares as you go. That’s why I designed a FREE downloadable cheat sheet to help you keep your place.

Here’s what you’ll get:

  • One-color layout for a blanket sample with only one color
  • Checkerboard layout to see how alternating colors will join together
  • Blank template to color and plan your own layout sample

Each template includes a 16-square sample so you can practice before committing to your full blanket layout.

🧶 Tips for Using the Join-As-You-Go Method

  • Plan for extra yarn: JAYGO adds a full round to each square, so you’ll need slightly more yarn than what the pattern calls for.
  • Your blanket will be bigger: Think of it as a bonus! You’ll end up with a slightly larger blanket!
  • Practice first: Make a small sample using the cheat sheet before starting on your actual blanket.
