Embroidered Conversation Heart Knit Coasters

It’s a little early but over the past couple evenings I have been working on my Valentine’s Day projects.  These coasters were on the top of my to-do list and I finally finished them up last night.  They are inspired by the sweet little conversation hearts we all passed around as little children on Valentine’s Day.  Although I actually can’t stand the taste of these little hearts I do love the way they look and wanted to find a way to incorporate them into my V-day decor.
To make these coasters I used Julie’s beautiful Knitted Heart Pattern from “Julie and The Knits” with a slight modification.  I wanted them to be a little longer than the original pattern calls for so in between each decrease row in forming the apex of the heart, I added 3 rows of knit.

Materials:
US size 8 knitting needles
worsted weight acrylic yarn, white and V-Day inspired colors
yarn needle
Once the hearts are knitted up, embroider the romantic messages on them.  To do this just take an arm’s length of white yarn threaded it into a yarn needle and start stitching.  Look the pictures below for a guide.  This did take me a couple attempts to get the letters to look how I wanted, but my time spent was so worth it!
To get the letters in a straight line, pick a row in the knitting that you want all the letters to sit on and and do the same for the uppermost boundary of the letters.  My letters were all about 3 rows tall.  Keep scrolling down to see my quick “Marry Me” stitch photo tutorial.
To start the M, bring the needle in from the back pulling the yarn through and leave about an inch of tail hanging out in the back.  Then just proceed to stitch the message.
After that last E from “Marry Me” is stitched, cut yarn and secure the loose ends.  Repeat the same steps for “XOXO”.
Repeat again for “Be Mine”.
Grab a drink and enjoy all your hard work!
Or…package them up and give to all the Valentines in your life. 🙂
Have a great day!!

    1. Hi Alexis, I'm so glad you stopped by!! Knitting takes a lot of practice, I have been at it for about 15 years but its been just the past couple years that I have branched out from making plain rectangles, haha. Crocheting is awesome too and I really enjoy it!

Thanks for the invite, headed over now!! 🙂

  4. Please can you share the template of the full alphabet letters that you embroidered on the hearts and also how to sew them so that I can give it a try using different messages on the knitted coasters.

    1. Hi Patricia! I do not have a template for the letters but I do share photo tutorials in this post showing the steps for stitching on the letters/messages that I used. I used a more free hand approach for this project.
