The Best Yarn for This Blanket

Choosing the right yarn for a blanket makes a huge difference, especially with a chunky pattern like this one.

I used Loops & Threads Demi Purl in Rose Violet, Cashmere Rose, and Pale Lilac. It’s a #6 super bulky chenille yarn from Michaels with a plush, velvety texture that feels amazing as a finished blanket. It also works up fast and is super easy to see your stitches with (for a fuzzy yarn), which makes it great for beginners.

Notes

Read all notes before starting this pattern.

Construction

This crochet blanket is worked flat back and forth in rows. This blanket is designed to use up all the yarn as you go. When a color block is almost finished, continue to work in pattern until you have worked your last full row with enough yarn to spare to weave in your ends. If you don’t reach the end of a row or there’s not enough yarn to weave in your end, pull that row out until you have one final completed row.

Special Techniques

The texture of this blanket is made up with a combination of single crochet and double crochet stitches. Starting Row 2, you’ll be working both a single crochet and double crochet into the single crochets of the row below, and skipping over the double crochet stitches.

Color Blocks

This blanket is made up of three colors in three color blocks. Each color block is about 24″ (61 cm) long. You can expect to crochet about 34-36 rows per color block.

Customization

  • This blanket is written in one size, however you can customize it by adjusting how many starting chains and rows you complete. Just note that adjusting the pattern will change your yarn requirements so be sure to adjust your yarn quantity as needed.
    • Adjusting Width: To make the blanket wider or narrower simply subtract or add more chains to the foundation chain (see stitch multiple below).
    • Adjusting Length: To make a shorter or longer blanket, simply add or take away rows to get to your desired length.
      • If making three color blocks like the sample shown, take your desired length measurement and divide it by 3. This is the measurement you’ll want to crochet up to for each of the three color blocks. For example, each color block in the sample shown is about 24″ (61 cm)

Stitch Multiple

Chain any even number or a multiple of 2 + 2.

  • For example this blanket starts with 86 chains. Here is the breakdown:
    • 84 (a multiple of 2) then add 1 (for the last stitch of the row), then add 1 more (for the foundation chain).
      • 84 + 1 + 1

Weekend Snuggle Throw Blanket Pattern (starts here)

With Color A chain 86

Row 1 (setup row): Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sc, dc in next. *Sc in next ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * until one chain remains, sc in last ch, turn. (85 sts)

Row 2: Ch 1, starting in first st of the row sc and dc in same st, sk the next st, *sc and dc in next st, sk the next st; repeat from * across the row until one stitch remains, sc in last st, turn. (85 sts)

Repeat Row 2 in color A until you’ve completed the last full row with enough yarn to spare to weave in your end. If you run out of Color A before the end of the row, rip out your work until your last completed full row.

Attach Color B, and repeat Row 2 and above repeat instructions.

Attach Color C, and repeat Row 2 and above repeat instructions.

Finishing

Once you’ve finished crocheting with Color C, cut yarn and secure. Weave in all ends.

Blocking

Blocking is not recommended for this project. You can however, gently wash and dry your blanket according to yarn instructions.

Enjoy!
