About the pattern

I’ve been wanting a pop of color in my kitchen recently and what better way to inexpensively spruce up the kitchen than with some fun dishcloths!

But, in addition to wanting some color in the kitchen I wanted to solve a little problem I always have and thats finding my dishcloth laying in the sink in a little pool of water. I don’t know about you but I CANNOT stand when I find my dishcloth just laying in the sink!

In order to solve this problem, I added a loop feature so that it can be hung to dry. Not only will the loop save dishcloths from the sink bottom, but it will last a little longer between washes since it won’t wet all day in the sink.

For the colors, I wanted some neutral with just a little pop of color. The dishcloth starts off with the contrasting color pop, and then after a few rows is transitioned into the main color which coordinates very nicely.

The body of the dishcloth uses a combination of single crochets and double crochets to make a really beautiful texture thats perfect for dishcloths and I’ve used this combo for several other patterns such as this dishcloth, and this wrap.

GAUGE

• 14 stitches by 14 rows = 4 inches in pattern stitch

MATERIALS

• 2 balls Lily Sugar n’Cream Yarn; each ball is 100% cotton, med-4 weight, 200 yards / 4oz
  • Main Color – Ecru
  • Contrasting Colors pictured – Berry Crush, Bamboo, Teal
  • Total Yardage Requirement: about 350 – 400 yards
• 5.5 mm hook (I use this set)
• Yarn needle
• Scissors
• Gauge Checker

KEY (US Terms)

• CC contrasting color
• ch chain
• dc double crochet
• MC main color
• sc single crochet
• sk skip
• sl slip
• sl st slip stitch
• st stitch

EASY CROCHET DISHCLOTH WITH LOOP PATTERN – Starts here:

Body of the dishcloth

With CC, Ch 33

Row 1: starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc, then dc in next ch, *sc in next ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * to end of row. (32)

Row 2: ch 1, sk 1st st, sc and dc in next st, *sk next st, sc and dc in next st; repeat from * to end of row. (32)

Repeat Row 2 until pieces measures approximately 9.5 inches from starting edge. (32)

After completing 10 rows, cut CC and attach MC. Continue working pattern as instructed.

Once piece measures 9.5 inches from starting edge. Cut yarn and secure.

Border

With CC, attach yarn to top right corner of dishcloth.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in same corner st. sc in each st across top edge to next corner. In next corner, make 1 sc, ch 12, sc in same corner st. Sc evenly along side edge, cutting CC once you reach the end of the CC color block portion and switch to MC to continue sc evenly along side edge. Make 3 sc in next corner sp. sc in each st along the bottom and repeat process for other side edge. End round with 2 sc in starting corner st.

Do not join.

Round 2: sl st evenly into each st, switching between MC and CC when appropriate. Once you reach corner with loop, make 12 sc in loop, and continue working in sl st for remainder of round.

Join at end of round with the 1st sl st of the round.

Cut yarn and secure.

Weave in ends.
