Stash Busting Granny Stripe Throw

The Stash Busting Granny Stripe Throw is a must-try project!  Not only will the end result give you a beautiful blanket but it will help empty your yarn stash to make room for new yarn!  To learn more about how to make this blanket, keep reading below!

Yarn

For this blanket I highly encourage you to use this pattern as an opportunity to clear out some of your personal yarn stash.  Not only will using yarn already in your stash save you money but you can use the excuse that you’re cleaning while you crochet!

My finished blanket is approximately 48 inches wide by 51 inches long and used up approximately 2,580 yards of yarn.  For my main color I used Big Twist Soft in the color Cream, while my contrasting colors actually came from deconstructed Premiere Sweet Roll yarn cakes.

I aimed for about 7 granny stripe rows in each color, with the main color starting and ending sections of having each 14 rows of granny stripe.  There were a couple of instances where I ran out of a color before reaching 7 rows of granny stripe, but I’m ok with it.  Different sized stripes just adds character to the blanket!

Be sure to let me know if you try out this blanket for yourself in the comments below!  I can’t wait to see your creations!

Stitch

As the name implies this throw blanket is crocheted up in the granny stitch.  The granny stitch is similar to the granny square in that it is comprised of three double crochet clusters but are arranged in a straight line rather than in a square.

I recently shared a photo and video tutorial of the granny stitch, so if you’d like to see a visual and learn more about the stitch, be sure to check out that post here!  Also if you like the granny stitch, you’ll love the granny ripple stitch!  (You can check that out here.)

  1. I love your circle to square pattern. It’s really easy to follow. I’ve made mine in lots of different centre colours. Because I’ve got lots of left over wool. I’m hoping I can work them into a nice pattern. Thank you so much Brittany.

  2. I love this pattern! Love the granny square stitch overall. Do you have starting chain counts for different sizes?

  3. Love the granny stripe throw pattern! Starting crocheting after 30+ years and I’m thrilled with the results. I did 6 rows of alternating color and base color and 12 rows of base color at the beginning and end. I would love to share a picture but your comment area does not allow for attachments. I looked look forward to trying some of your other patterns. Thanks and Happy New Year!
