Construction
This ornament cover is worked in the round from the bottom up. Once the main body of the cover is crocheted, you’ll slide it over the bulb and continue crocheting directly around the ornament while decreasing for the upper half.
Special Techniques
- Increase (inc): work 2 dc stitches into the same stitch. 1 stitch increased.
- Invisible Decrease (dec): Yarn over, insert hook into the front loops of the next two stitches. Draw up a loop, yarn over and complete the double crochet. 1 stitch decreased.
Working the Pattern
- The starting ch 2 of the round does not count as a stitch.
- All rounds are joined with a sl st into the first st of the round.
- Increase and decease stitches are specifically noted. All other stitches are regular double crochet.
Abbreviations
- ch chain
- dc double crochet

FAQ
Yes! This is a very beginner-friendly pattern. It only uses the double crochet stitch, with some simple increasing and decreasing. If you follow along with the video tutorials, I show you exactly how to do each step!
This pattern is designed to fit a 4″ plastic fillable ornament (just over a 12.25″ circumference). If your ornament is slightly larger or smaller, you can easily adjust by adding or removing a round.
Maybe! As long as you’re able to get gauge it should work. But you’ll also want to be aware that substituting yarn may make the fabric less dense, resulting in seeing the ornament through the cover.
Most crocheters finish one ornament in around 30 minutes or under, which makes this perfect for last minute decorating or gifting.
